“Pretty Little Liars” will return with the second half of season 2 on January 2, 2012, but with all that have happened to them, the Liars are not on good terms with one another. When met at an event recently, two of the series’ main cast, Troian Bellisario and Shay Mitchell, addressed the situation.

Bellisario shared to TV Guide, “The girls have formed this schism, especially between Spencer and Emily. They have two very different ideas of how to approach what A has done to them.” Mitchell, meanwhile, noted that Emily is standing up to the girls. “Emily has gained so much confidence,” she explained. “She’s really on a mission to find out who A is and put a stop to everything.”

Mitchell also spilled a bit on the return of Maya, but she and Bellisario weren’t the only ones talking about what to expect from the remaining of the season. Lucy Hale and Ashley Benson, who play Aria and Hanna, also gave a little insight to the series with Hale talking about the coming out of Aria and Ezra.

“Pretty Little Liars” will pick up in the town of Rosewood a month after the four Liars were caught by police when it returns to ABC Family. Earlier, executive producer Marlene King promises that the identity of “A” will be revealed in the season 2 finale which will air on March 19.

Could Paige have a hand in the big ‘A’ reveal?

Back in October, Pretty Little Liars executive producer Marlene King gave fans a heads-up that Emily’s (Shay Mitchell) crazy ex-girlfriend Paige McCullers (Lindsey Shaw) will be back on the show this season — and now HollywoodLife.com has obtained exclusive details that make me think Emily might just be romancing the enemy. A source tells me that Lindsey’s grand re-entrance is being held for the May 19 season finale, and she’s expected to return for season three “because her storyline is hot.”

Considering we now know the identity of “A” will be revealed on the finale, am I the only one reserving a spot for Paige at the top of my suspect list? Between lying, crushing on girls, and literally trying to drowning Emily in the pool, Paige has definitely exhibited some A-like behavior during her stint in Rosewood.

But regardless of whether or not Paige turns out to be the ever-elusive text monster in question, I’m just hoping for one thing upon her return: More lesbian karaoke! (Maybe a little Melissa Etheridge this time?)

It’s almost New Year’s Eve, which is the perfect excuse to look back at the past year in Pretty Little Liars (not that we need an excuse).

Reflecting on what’s happened on the show since January 2011, one thing became very clear: almost every character had a rough time. We guess that’s what happens when you’re being stalked by a mysterious, crazed tormentor (or several).

But which Pretty Little Liars character had the worst time? Here are our top three candidates:

Emily: From juicing her with steroids to almost suffocating her in the barn, “A” was especially cruel to Emily (Shay Mitchell) during the summer season. On top of that, Emily’s parents left town, and her dreams of being a college swimmer fell apart in front of her eyes. On the plus side, at least Maya (Bianca Lawson) is back — but, whoops, she just wants to be friends for now. Ouch.
Spencer: Spencer’s sister (Torrey DeVitto) spent the last year being a mega biotch while engaged to Ian (Ryan Merriman), who later tried to kill Spencer. That’s pretty freaking traumatic. If that weren’t bad enough, now her dad is acting very suspicious. Plus, her love life has been hard. “A” scared Alex (Diego Gonzalez Boneta) away in early January, and then when she finally found true love with Toby (Keegan Allen), “A” forced her to break his heart, too. *sob*

Ashley Marin: We think Hanna’s (Ashley Benson) mom, Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton), deserves a mention. She spent a long time stressing out after being forced to steal money to keep her family afloat. Then she finally reconnected with Hanna’s dad and seemed happy, only to realize that it would never work, leaving her lonely once again. Plus, she has to constantly worry about her daughter, who is clearly caught up in something suspicious that she doesn’t understand.
